PERCUSSIVE VS CUSTOM MOLDED, WHATS THE DIFFERENCE?
Frequently asked questions
Decibullz Custom earplugs offer several advantages over standard, off-the-shelf earplugs due to their personalized fit and enhanced performance. Here's why custom earplugs are better:
- Perfect Fit: Custom earplugs are molded to the unique contours of your ears, ensuring a snug and comfortable fit. This precise fit not only provides better noise isolation but also makes them more comfortable for extended wear.
- Superior Noise Reduction: Because they fit your ears perfectly, custom earplugs provide more effective noise reduction compared to generic earplugs. The customized seal blocks out more noise, allowing you to experience greater quietness in loud environments.
- Enhanced Comfort: Custom earplugs are made from high-quality materials that are selected to be comfortable for long periods. The tailored fit reduces pressure points and discomfort that can occur with standard earplugs.
- Durability: Custom earplugs are crafted with durable materials that are designed to last. They can withstand regular use and maintain their effectiveness over time, making them a cost-effective choice in the long run.
- Consistency: Custom earplugs are manufactured with precision, ensuring that each pair is consistent in terms of fit and noise reduction. This consistency is often not achievable with standard earplugs due to variations in ear canal shapes.
- Sealing Out Water: Custom earplugs can also be designed to keep water out of your ears. This makes them ideal for swimmers, water sports enthusiasts, or anyone who needs to protect their ears from water-related issues.
- Musicians and Professionals: Musicians, sound engineers, and professionals working in noisy environments can benefit from custom earplugs designed to provide specific levels of noise reduction while preserving sound clarity. They allow you to hear important sounds while still protecting your hearing.
- Reduced Discomfort: Custom earplugs are less likely to cause discomfort during sleep or while lying on your side, as they won't shift or come loose as easily as generic earplugs.
- Hygiene: Custom earplugs are easier to clean and maintain compared to standard earplugs, which can accumulate dirt and bacteria more easily.
- Tailored Solutions: Some custom earplugs can be designed with special features, like filters that allow for natural sound attenuation, making them suitable for musicians, motorcyclists, and individuals who need to hear specific frequencies clearly.
To properly fit your custom molded earplugs, follow these steps: 1. Heat the earplugs in hot water according to the instructions. 2. Mold the warm earplugs to the shape of your ear canal. 3. Hold the earplugs in place until they cool and harden. 4. Check for a snug and comfortable fit by gently tugging on the earplugs.
To maintain hygiene and ensure the longevity of your custom molded earplugs, clean them regularly. Use mild soap and water to gently wash the earplugs, then let them air dry completely before use. Avoid using harsh chemicals or alcohol-based cleaners as they can damage the material. Regular cleaning helps prevent ear infections and keeps your earplugs in optimal condition.
Always remove ear piercings before fitting Decibullz products. Depending on the piercing location, you may still use Decibullz. External piercings are usually fine, but internal ones may cause issues. If unsure, contact us. Always remove piercings before fitting!
If the molding material goes under the folds or ridges of your ear it can become uncomfortable. Remold the earplugs and make sure that all the molding material is contained in just the concha (bowl) of the ear. Use your fingers to gently smooth the edges, ensuring that there are no rough surfaces that might cause discomfort to your ears.
No problem, just re mold them!
Your ears can and do change shape so being able to do this is great and ensures your molds can change if you do.
Tips
- Do NOT over work / apply to much pressure during fitting as this can lead to discomfort as you have forced your ear into a different shape as it cools.
- Also check you haven't pushed the material into the creases.
Just a few tips to be successful in the re-molding process.
- Use the smallest size of silicone tip for molding.
- Use 2 coffee mugs and pour in boiling water from a kettle - then place each earplug in the mug of boiling water for a full 5 minutes. These should already have the silicone tips and back plugs assembled.
- The molds need to be soft in order to get a good mold!
- Insert the mold into your ear, making sure the silicone tip enters the ear canal. Then spread the molding material around the concha of your ear, making sure the material fills the entire space.
- Any rough edges after molding can be smoothed out by just reheating the molds in hot water for a few minutes to make them soft enough to smooth, but not too soft to ruin your awesome new mold!
FOAM TIPS USAGE: For the most protection and isolation, switch to the foam tips afterward. With these, if you need more isolation, move to a larger size to find what works best for your situation. Also, for the foam, make sure to compress the foam before inserting the earplugs into your ears. This allows the foam to expand fully in the ear canal and prolongs the life of the foam tip.
If you find that one ear fits better than another, sometimes each side can require a different size of tip. So please use any combination needed to ensure a great fit. (Example would be a small foam tip in the right ear and medium foam or silicone in the left ear).
Foam tips offer the best protection and stronger seal if struggling with the silicon tips
With smaller ears, we've found that the small foam tips work as they can be compressed before being put into the ears.
However, for tiny ears, we have a few tips to try:
1. Start by cutting a little material off of the top of the mold (after it is heated and soft and pliable)
2. Put the mold back in the hot water for 1-2 minutes. This will make the edges softer for the molding process
3. Children must be 12 +
Then complete the molding process.
Yes, Decibullz Custom Molded Earplugs are an excellent choice for motorcyclists. These earplugs provide a customizable fit, ensuring they stay securely in place even during long rides. They effectively reduce wind and engine noise, protecting your hearing without obstructing important sounds like traffic or communication devices. As they are re-moldable, you can easily adjust them for maximum comfort and an optimal fit, which is particularly beneficial for those who wear helmets for extended periods. Whether you're on a leisurely ride or a high-speed journey, Decibullz earplugs offer reliable hearing protection tailored to your specific needs.
Please note that some helmets do cause pressure on the ear which in turn could make them uncomfortable. Some also have a lining built into the helmet which again will put pressure onto the product and possible cause some discomfort. WE are unable to advise on specific helmet types due to the sheer scale of manufacturers and variants
